Privacy Policy

How Basic Finance Pty Ltd collects, uses, protects and shares personal information.

We are committed to managing personal information openly and responsibly. This policy explains our practices under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply.

Information we collect

Depending on your enquiry, we may collect your name, contact details, date of birth, identification information, employment or business details, financial position, assets and liabilities, income, bank statements, property and security information, credit-related information, transaction purpose and supporting documents. We may also collect website usage, device and communication records.

How we collect information

We collect information directly from you through forms, email, telephone, meetings and documents you provide. With your authority, we may also receive information from co-borrowers, guarantors, accountants, lawyers, valuers, lenders, credit reporting bodies, identification and bank-statement service providers, public registers and other parties involved in assessing or arranging your finance.

Why we use it

We use personal information to respond to enquiries; assess, structure and submit finance proposals; verify identity and transaction details; communicate with lenders and professional advisers; manage referrals and commissions; meet legal and risk obligations; maintain records; improve our services; and send relevant updates where permitted. You may opt out of marketing at any time.

Disclosure to other parties

Where reasonably necessary, we may disclose information to prospective or current lenders, mortgage managers, funders, valuers, lawyers, accountants, insurers, credit reporting bodies, identity and fraud-prevention providers, bank-statement or data-aggregation services, technology and cloud providers, regulators, law-enforcement bodies, and a purchaser or adviser involved in a proposed business transaction. We do not sell personal information.

Credit and identity checks

With appropriate authority, a lender or service provider may obtain credit information, verify identity or review bank-transaction data. The exact checks depend on the proposed facility and the party assessing it. Business-purpose enquiries can still involve personal information about directors, guarantors and property owners.

Overseas processing

Some technology, cloud, verification or support providers may store or process information outside Australia. Provider locations can change. We take reasonable steps required by law when engaging overseas providers, and you may contact us for current information relevant to your matter.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website may use cookies, analytics and similar technologies to operate securely, understand site use and improve communications. Browser settings can limit cookies, although parts of the website may then work differently.

Security and retention

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No online system is completely secure. Records are retained for as long as reasonably required for our services, legal duties and dispute management, and are then destroyed or de-identified where appropriate.

Access and correction

You may ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you. We may need to verify your identity and may decline access where the law permits. If a reasonable administrative cost applies, we will explain it before proceeding.

Sensitive information

We collect sensitive information only where it is reasonably necessary, with consent or as otherwise permitted by law. We use or disclose it only for the purpose for which it was collected, a directly related purpose, or where required or authorised by law.

Referrals and commissions

We may receive a referral fee, commission or other benefit from a lender or third-party service provider. This does not by itself increase the amount you pay. We will disclose relevant arrangements where required, and you remain free to choose your own provider.

Questions and complaints

Contact us first so we can investigate and respond. Please include enough detail to identify the issue. If you are not satisfied, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
