Asset-backed business loans Australia

Asset-backed business loans.
Put existing assets to work.

Explore business-purpose cash release against eligible existing assets, including unencumbered cars, trucks and machinery. Listed shares and physical gold may also be considered through lenders that accept those assets, under separate assessment and security arrangements.

Basic Finance Loans helps assess the asset, existing debt, funding requirement and repayment plan. Availability depends on lender criteria and the complete scenario.

Own the asset. Understand the options.

This starts with what you already own.

Purchase finance helps acquire equipment. Cash-out asset-backed lending considers an existing asset as security for a separate business funding requirement.

A truck, excavator or eligible machine may have value, but that does not mean its full value is available to borrow. The lender determines the accepted value and facility structure.

Buying equipment instead?

Our asset finance service covers eligible equipment and vehicle purchases. For vehicle-specific enquiries, explore vehicle-secured business finance.

Property is a different pathway.

Vehicles, machinery, listed shares and physical gold require asset-specific assessment. For property-backed funding and a broader security position, see secured business loans.

Different assets, different requirements

Equity release against assets you already own.

Unencumbered cars and trucks

Own a car or truck outright, with no outstanding finance or other security interests? Basic Finance can help explore business-purpose funding against an eligible vehicle, releasing part of its accepted value without financing a new purchase.

The lender must verify ownership, existing security, age, condition and accepted value, as well as the repayment plan. Owning the vehicle outright does not guarantee approval or access to its full value. Confirm whether you can keep using it, where it must be kept and what insurance is required.

Listed shares and physical gold

Business-purpose funding may also be considered against eligible listed shares or physical gold through lenders that accept these asset classes. These are separate funding pathways, not the same product or assessment as a vehicle-backed loan.

Ask which holdings or gold forms are eligible, how value is assessed, and what custody, control, transfer or storage arrangements apply. Confirm any restrictions on selling or accessing the asset, and what the agreement requires if its value falls. Do not assume a quoted market value is the amount available to borrow.

Each scenario is individually assessed. Accepted assets, advance amounts, costs, terms and security arrangements vary by lender. No approval, full-value advance or particular custody arrangement is guaranteed. This service is for business purposes, not personal expenses.

Real business timing gaps

The opportunity is real.
The cash arrives later.

A useful proposal connects the asset to a defined business need and a repayment event. Here are three illustrative situations—not completed client transactions or promises of approval.

01 · Contract mobilisation

The job is signed. Materials are due.

A contractor owns machinery but needs capital to start a new contract before the first progress payment.

The key question: when will the customer pay, and can the business manage a delayed certification or payment?

02 · Supplier timing

The supplier cannot wait for your invoice.

A business owns an eligible vehicle and needs to bridge a specific gap between a supplier payment and a customer receipt.

The key question: is this a temporary gap, or a recurring shortage that needs a different working-capital structure?

03 · Planned asset sale

Surplus machinery. A sale still in progress.

A business seeks interim funding while arranging the sale of an asset it no longer needs.

The key question: are the net sale proceeds and timing realistic? Any sale-linked structure requires lender confirmation.

The number that matters

Asset value is not cash in your account.

Accepted value, the lender’s advance policy, existing finance, interest and fees all affect the amount you can actually use. An asking price or original invoice is not an accepted valuation.

The example shows deductions from a hypothetical approved facility. It does not imply an advance percentage, rate or available product.

Keep the business operating

Can you keep using the asset?

Do not assume this is automatic. Possession, permitted use, insurance, inspections and any storage or tracking requirements depend on the agreed facility.

If the machinery earns the income needed to repay, continued access matters as much as the funding amount. Confirm the conditions before proceeding.

Get clear answers before signing.

  • Where must the asset be kept, and who can use it?
  • Are insurance, inspection or tracking conditions imposed?
  • What happens if the asset is damaged or cannot work?
  • What security, guarantees or additional support are required?
  • What happens if the expected repayment is delayed?

We do not promise a particular custody or tracking arrangement without lender confirmation.

Prepare a useful first brief

Show the asset.
Explain the requirement.

  • For vehicles or machinery: make, model, year, condition, location and identifying details
  • For listed shares: holding summary, listed company names, quantities and existing security arrangements
  • For physical gold: form, weight, purity evidence, ownership and storage details requested by the lender
  • Ownership evidence and borrower/entity details
  • Existing finance, payout and security information
  • Photos, valuation or inspection evidence as requested
  • Amount, documented business purpose and deadline
  • Financial information requested by the lender
  • Repayment source, timing and a fallback plan

From enquiry to a decision

1. Review the scenario. Establish the asset, owner, funding purpose and repayment plan.

2. Confirm the evidence. Identify valuation, ownership, existing security and borrower information needed.

3. Compare the proposal. Review net funds, total cost, term, asset-use conditions and security.

4. Clear the conditions. Funding depends on lender approval, documentation and satisfaction of settlement requirements.

Start with a summary. Do not send identity documents, tax file numbers or bank passwords through a general enquiry form.

Clear costs. Clear consequences.

Look beyond the headline rate.

Ask for net funds, total repayment, repayment frequency and interest treatment. Check applicable establishment, broker, valuation, legal, storage, tracking and exit charges—not every charge applies to every structure. Understand minimum interest, early repayment and default terms.

The asset is at risk if the loan is not repaid.

Security and enforcement rights depend on the documents and applicable law. Guarantees or additional security may extend the exposure beyond one asset. Obtain independent legal and financial advice where appropriate.

Before you enquire

Asset-backed business lending questions.

Must the asset be owned outright?

Existing finance does not automatically end the enquiry, but the payout and security position must be assessed. There may be insufficient net value after debt and costs.

Is this an unsecured loan?

No. The proposed funding is supported by an accepted asset. The lender determines the security and any additional requirements.

Are credit checks or financial statements required?

Requirements vary by lender and facility. We will explain what evidence is needed for your scenario rather than promise that no checks or documents are required.

How much can I borrow, and how quickly?

There is no universal amount or guaranteed turnaround. Accepted value, existing debt, documentation, ownership checks, approval and cleared conditions determine the amount and timing.

Can I use the money for personal expenses?

No. This service is for eligible business-purpose funding. Read our business-purpose lending policy.

Before you commit

Three checks before asset value becomes a funding plan.

1. Is the asset available as security?

Identify the legal owner, existing finance and any security interests. Do not assume an asset is available just because the business uses it.

Start with an asset summary and current payout information; the required verification depends on the lender.

2. Will the net funds do the job?

Compare the proposed cash release after payouts and costs with the actual business requirement. A facility that leaves a funding gap may not solve the problem.

Ask what changes if the accepted asset value is lower than your estimate.

3. Can the business repay and keep operating?

Review repayments alongside operating costs and confirm the permitted use of the asset. If it earns your income, any restriction on access matters.

Explain what happens if the expected customer payment or asset sale is delayed.
